Aphids are among the most common garden pests — and one of the most dangerous, as they spread dozens of plant viruses. 🪲 Our tried-and-tested recipe: neem oil + orange essential oil + potassium soap.

Recipe (1 litre): 950 ml water + 15–20 ml potassium soap (dissolve first) + 10–15 ml neem oil + 5–10 drops orange EO. Shake vigorously!
🌙 Spray in the evening — neem degrades in UV light. 🔁 Every 5–7 days, at least 3 times. ⚠️ Not above 30°C.

Potassium soap acts as an emulsifier, binding the oil molecules into the water to form a stable, uniform spray that adheres evenly to leaf surfaces and stays in place long enough to work.
- Why should the neem mixture be sprayed after sunset rather than during the day?
Neem oil’s active compound, azadirachtin, is highly UV-sensitive and breaks down within hours of direct sunlight exposure, before it can exert its systemic, hormone-disrupting effect on aphids. Spraying after sunset gives the compound the entire night to absorb into leaf tissue before the next day’s sun reaches it, substantially increasing treatment effectiveness with the same amount of product.
- Why does the treatment need to be repeated at least three times if the first spray already kills the aphids present?
Neem oil and potassium soap act primarily on adult and nymph aphids through contact and systemic effects, but they cannot kill eggs already laid, which hatch into a new generation within 5–7 days.
