👋 Hello!
I’m Ági, and Tamás is the one who dreamed up and created BioGarden365.

✨ Why and how was the application born?
We have to turn back the wheel of time ⏳, as it’s the result of a series of interconnected events. Fundamentally, both of us have always been close to the garden 🌱, plants 🌸, and the activities associated with them.

We started our life together in a third-floor apartment in Debrecen 🏢, but we often visited our parents in their houses with gardens 🏡. Soon, we started building our own home, and with two children 👨‍👩‍👧‍👦, we moved into the house of our dreams. We’ve been living here since 2007, constantly improving and shaping it to our liking.

🍅 The first steps in the kitchen garden
We’ve had a kitchen garden from the very start. It feels so good to just go down to the garden for a few tomatoes 🍅 for breakfast, or for fresh parsley leaves 🌿. Back then, we certainly weren’t thinking about organic gardening, but the idea was always buzzing in our minds 💡.

❤️ Health and Awareness
Unfortunately, several sad events 🕊️ occurred in our family, which made us think. Who knows… maybe if one pays more attention to what they eat, their body would have been stronger to fight off the deadly disease. We have many memories from our grandparents 👵👴 about the strong chemicals ☠️ they had to spray on the potatoes to eliminate the potato beetle 🐞.

As time went on, we became more and more conscious about our health. We drank teas from Gyuri bácsi ☕, and later Tamás also prepared tinctures 🧪, which we still consume today. We tried to choose groceries from the store 🛒 that had as few additives as possible 🚫.

It’s very difficult to find reliable, chemical-free products, even at local markets. A nice old lady or a “homemade” label is unfortunately no guarantee, as we have experienced ourselves 🤦.

🌻 A community is born
That’s when Tamás came up with an idea 💡: to create a Facebook group where only guaranteed chemical-free products could be advertised. The Debrecen Chemical-Free Market group was started in the summer of 2024, and it now has 1300 members! You can find everything here: syrups 🧃, eggs 🥚, chicken 🐓, honey 🍯, fruit 🍏, vegetables 🥦, seedlings 🌱, and much more.

In the spring of ’24, we also built a greenhouse in our garden 🌿🏠. It’s not large, but a lot can fit inside.

🌱 Biointensive gardening
We had long since abandoned chemicals. We even fertilized the lawn with cattle manure 🐄. Over the winter, Tamás completely immersed himself in the secrets of biointensive gardening 📚.

In January-February, we started planting seeds on the windowsill of our enclosed terrace. Food was cooking on the wood stove 🍲 while the seeds were growing. Roughly 1000 seedlings 🌱🌱🌱 grew from the seeds: various types of tomatoes 🍅, peppers 🌶️, lots of vegetables 🥬, and flowers 🌸. During planting, fertilizing, watering 💧, and mulching, we consistently used only organic methods.

Unfortunately, aphids 🐛 appeared in the spring, but we had no ladybugs 🐞. What could we do? We went and looked for them! We succeeded, and the introduced ladybugs multiplied, and soon the aphids were gone.

🥕 The joy of the harvest and organizing knowledge
We try to preserve the currently ripe produce for the winter ❄️ by freezing 🧊 or using a canning machine 🫙. Although our garden is not very large, it’s a huge joy to see the companion flowers 🌸 blooming among the green seedlings.

For many years, Tamás managed all our experiences and planting plans in Excel spreadsheets 📊. After a while, we realized how much help this knowledge could be to other garden lovers 🌍. This is how the BioGarden365 application 📲 was born, in which we combined our experiences, our love for biointensive methods, and the possibilities of technology 💻.
